FRIDAY 6-20-2008

6-20-2008
Friday - (Fly to Dalian, Visit to Dalian Foreign Language University)

Checked out of the lovely Beijing International Hotel and we headed back to the airport for a short 1 hr flight to Dalian. The flight was smooth and we landed in Dalian without incident. The first thing everyone noticed were the blue skies in Dalian. Beijing, which was a wonderful city, has only one downfall: the smog. With so many people and vehicles compounded with the fact that the factories still burn coal, causes the city to always be covered in a cloud of smog. In Dalian, it is much cleaner and the skies are clearer. After we checked in to the May Day Hotel, we headed over to Foreign Language University in Dalian. There, the students saw a PowerPoint presentation on the university and then were able to converse with the students from the university. Our students were all paired with a student from the university and chatted for about 15-20 minutes. Our students then exchanged gifts they had brought from home and we also received some gifts from the university. Finally, the students received a calligraphy lesson from an actual professor from the university, and then were able to practice what they learned from the brief lesson. It was definitely a wonderful experience.

Our 1st lunch in Dalian

Eating lunch at a Brazilian style churascarria. In this type of restaurant they bring out a variety of different meats on a skewer and cut it off right in front of you and onto your plate. They brought out at least 10-12 different types of meat including chicken heart.

Our students were awesome. They initiated conversation and kept the conversations going for the most part. They had a lot to say.
