Monday - (Water Cave, Shopping at the center of Shenyang)

Monday morning, we left for a tour of the water cave, which is not only the largest in China, but in all of Asia. Since the weather had been in the mid 80's, many of us did not anticipate how cold the cave would be. Many of us were wondering why the workers were wearing ski suits. Little did we know, it was about 45 degrees inside the cave. We were fortunate that the park provided us with raincoats that kept us both dry and warm. The Water Cave has an underground river and our group took two sightseeing boats to navigate through the cave. Mr. Nystrom's $19,000 digital camera was able to capture some truly beautiful shots of the cave. The colored lights inside of the cave illuminated the million year old stalactites and the stalagmites. After the sightseeing tour, we headed to the museum to see pieces of quartz, calcite, and fossils that had been found in the cave and in the general area. Finally, we stopped at a local, small restaurant for lunch which was different from the big city restaurants we had eaten at in the previous days. This was more typical food of the farmers and the country folks of the area, but needless to say, the food was just as delicious. Just ask Brianna and Tyler!
